IMAG1175       This Picture is one of the many steps I kept track of. This yurt is now finished with soft sides and no building permits needed, I did not have a cover made because of the price.  Normal R19 insulation was used for the walls and a thick batting for the roof. Because of how close to winter it had been put up quickly. The roof will be redone this summer. This yurt stayed around 82 degrees during the cold spells of the winter. As for summer it hasn’t been to bad but we have the roof to where the ring opens and i put in a homemade swamp cooler.

In the making of this 40ft yurt there was $3,000 spent on supply’s . It took 2 people 1 week to put the frame up and I would recommend to have 3 or more people to put one together.IMAG1170

The ring was made with precisely cut 2×6 pieces and bolts also a good amount of wood glue between each layer.

IMAG1172The lattice is 1×2’s that each have 8 holes drilled and bolted. These were put together in sections and put up at an arc then bolted together as a whole. The door frame was put on the inside of it then bolted and made stable before cutting the door part of the lattice out. The 2×4’s were put on the inside but most of the time they are put on the outside. the cable around the top of the lattice is used to keep the lattice together.

thThese cable tighteners are put on each side of the door frame and the cable is hooked to each side then tightened till the lattice is tight and the cable is non-moveable.
